News: This TAG Heuer Is Bang-On-Trend
Trends are a funny thing. In the moment they are all the rage, but when we look back on them, we tend to think god, what was I thinking?—wet-look gel being a great example of a trend that haunts me to this day. Two trends currently taking the horological world by storm are vintage re-issues and green watches—and this TAG Heuer is both of those things. Introducing the TAG Heuer Carrera Green Special Edition.
TAG Heuer has jumped in the DeLorean for this one, bringing back the 1960s Heuer reference 2447 as a base for the watch. Like the watch that inspired it, the Carrera Green Special Edition is a minimal, highly legible stainless steel chronograph with a simple three sub-dial and baton-hour-maker layout.
Staying true to the design of its 60s predecessor, the Carrera Green Special Edition maintains the “Carrera/Heuer” branding, has a domed sapphire crystal and adds a little “faux-tina” in the form of beige luminescent dots—located at the end of each hour marker—and strips coating the hands. It also doesn’t have a tachymeter bezel like newer renditions of the Carrera, instead opting to boast a polished bezel with a minute track located on the outer portion of the teal dial so that you can still accurately operate the chronograph.
So, apart from a bang-on-trend teal dial, what does 60-plus years of innovation separating the original reference 2447 and this watch bring to the table? An added thickness. To accommodate the modern in-house Heuer 02 movement, this watch is a thicker 15mm—but, hey, it’s not the end of the world, is it? The added few mm of height means you get one of TAG Heuer’s best chronograph movements featuring a column wheel and vertical clutch, a 28,800 vph beat rate and an 80-hour power reserve.
A 39mm modern take on a watch that helped shape TAG Heuer into the brand we know it to be today, in green and with a sapphire caseback—what’s not to like?
